Melody in the movies: 1984Rajiv Vijaykar (Screen)
... Laxmikant-Pyarelal and R.D.Burman, the reigning composers, came up with a torrent of disappointing scores, some of them salvaged by a few rivetting songs. The lows in terms of big films or past track-records of associations with filmmakers include ... Anand Aur Anand, Jhutha Sach, Aan Aur Shaan, Duniya, Yeh Desh, Awaaz, Maati Maangey Khoon and Karishmaa from RD Burman.
...
On the positive side, Hariharan is noticed after his debut many years ago for the Kavita-Hariharan duet, 'Hai mubarak aaj ka din...' from Boxer.
Abhijeet gets a quantitatively major break in Anand Aur Anand, which was also the first film for which he recorded, while Kumar Sanu makes his debut singing a few lines for Kamal Haasan in a multi-singer song in Yeh Desh. All these three films have music by R.D.Burman.
RD's Jawaani is perhaps the best of a humdrum lot, with a winner in 'Tu rootha to main ro doongi sanam...' , an Asha-Amit duet. 'Gali gali dhoonda...'(Lata-Amit), 'Sajnaa main sadaa tere saath hoon...' (Lata) and 'Bheega bheega pyara pyaara...'(Asha-Amit) are also pleasant numbers.
